Description

Learner Profile:

The course is suitable for those with or looking to upskill in hyper MILL CAD/CAM software.

Learner prerequisites:

Candidates should at minimum have completed the Junior Cert with pass grades in at least five ordinary level subjects (including Maths and English).

Learners should have basic knowledge of CNC operation and setting of already developed programmes on CNC machines.

Learning outcomes:

At the end of the course the learners will be able to:

  • Understand how to use CAD/CAM technology to program turned parts for manufacture
  • Understand how and when to use various turning cycles depending upon the underlying part geometry
  • Ability to simulate turning toolpaths to check for potential tool collisions
  • Understand how use advanced turning cycles to reduce cycle times on the machines.

    Course Content:

    • Use of 5X machine tools and understanding of different kinematics of CNC machines
    • Use of tilt curves on cylindrical parts, using tool tip and the effects they have
    • How different shape and positions of tilt curves affects toolpaths
    • Use of tilt curves outside the cylinder and how it affects the tool path
    • Using the tool holder and different methods to control the tool holder
    • How to rework a 3X cycle to a 5X cycle and why
    • How to program complex parts using advanced 5X cycles.

    Duration:

    2 days

    Exam/Continuous Assessment details:

The instructor supervises a series of tasks undertaken during the course to verify the learner’s understanding.

    Certification / Awarding Body/Credits:
