This course aims to provide supervisors and managers with a strategic and operational overview of environmental sustainability as it affects their specific industry and work activities. It is aimed at those individuals who have no formal background in Environmental or Sustainability matters.

Description

Learner Profile:

The Sustainability Skills for Managers course aims to provide supervisors and managers with a strategic and operational overview of sustainability, including environment, social and governance (ESG) as it affects their specific industry and work activities.

Learner prerequisites:

Candidates should, at minimum, have completed the Junior Cert with pass grades in at least five ordinary level subjects (including Maths and English).

Learning outcomes:

On successful completion of this course learners will be able to:

· Understand sustainability.

· Identify environmental and social threats to their business.

· Frame their activities and the impacts of rapidly changing regulations.

· Understand the consequences of a business-as-usual approach.

· Discover opportunities arising from the transition to net zero and addressing the biodiversity crisis.

· Identify effective communication channels.

· Implement appropriate change management principles.

· Evaluate effective engagement strategies through environmental management systems.

Course Content:

· Environmental, social and governance (ESG) risks and opportunities.


· Compliance obligations and business drivers for change.


· The main potential impacts on environment and sustainability.


· How to improve environmental performance.


· Evaluate drivers for change and barriers to change.


· Apply knowledge and understanding to baselines data to monitor and improve performance.


· Apply knowledge of sustainability across the value chain.


· Demonstrate the importance of implementing resource efficiency.


· Demonstrate how employees can improve sustainability performance.

Duration:

This course runs for 14 hours across 2 days. 

Exam/Continuous Assessment details:

The assessment for Environmental Sustainability Skills for Managers consists of an online 20 question multiple-choice test and learners must achieve 70% to pass. The test is completed through the IEMA assessment portal and candidates are sent a link upon registration to the assessment. The test must be completed within a prescribed timeframe (6 weeks).
